Humble Beginnings
Driven to improve production, Eric worked to optimize processes, striving for higher yields. Unfortunately, the farm faced a devastating disease outbreak, prompting Eric to establish Unrau Livestock Transport. The disease outbreak revealed many overlooked biosecurity measures in the transportation industry, inspiring him to create a more effective system.
Eric acquired livestock trailers, a truck, and established a wash bay and bake shop to address the biosecurity concerns. He prioritized cleanliness and segregation to prevent cross-contamination between clean and dirty trailers. The location of each facility was carefully planned, emphasizing the separation of different processes and biosecurity concerns.
Unrau Livestock Transport developed innovative practices to enhance biosecurity. Real-time temperature sensors were installed in trailers during baking, ensuring proper temperature distribution to eliminate disease risk.
Eric's vision led to the creation of a well-organized operation with a seamless workflow. The wash bay and bake shop are distinct areas with designated driveways, minimizing contamination risks. The bake shop includes a maintenance bay for post-bake inspections, addressing issues arising from temperature fluctuations.

Founded by Eric Unrau, Unrau Livestock is a Manitoba-based company specializing in livestock transportation. Eric grew up on a hog and grain farm, gaining valuable agricultural experience. After university, where he became an agronomist and certified crop advisor, Eric entered potato agronomy, managing disease risk for seven years. He returned to the family farm, managing pig and grain production.
